Social Media… We hate to love it.

Social media platforms have ultimately taken the world by storm. Beginning with Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, Instagram, and more recently Tik Tok. What began as a means of communicating and sharing with friends, has become a billion-dollar industry used as a tool by businesses across the world. Although these social platforms are surrounded by negative connotations such as bullies and trolls, unrealistic lifestyle depictions, and the cause of online “addiction”… it definitely won’t be going away anytime soon…. here is why.

Business

Social Media has become a fantastic way to engage and connect with a broader range of customers. Whether the business is in retail, the professional industry, sells products, or offers services, social media attracts customers and builds business reputability.

Social Media can help your business to:

  • Attract customers, build loyalty and receive feedback

  • Increase market reach

  • Increase revenue by building customer networks and advertising

  • Develop your brand

  • Increase traffic to your website and improve its search engine rating

  • Keep an eye on your competitors

  • Utilise paid advertising

With so many consumers actively using social media every day, it is the easiest way to reach and connect with your customers. However not all social media platforms will work best for a business, thus why it is so important to have a social media strategy.

Creative Portfolio

Artists, photographers, filmmakers, designers, performers, etc etc. Social media has become a way to curate and showcase a portfolio of work readily available to anyone with a mobile or laptop. An easily accessible portfolio for creatives has enabled them to broadcast their work to a large audience, attracting attention and in turn, more exposure and work. As a marketer, social media has been a fantastic way to showcase my client's work and build reputability for myself as a creative.

Influencers

To come out of social media has been an entirely new professional job, whereby individuals with large social media followings are used as a tool by brands to increase their business exposure by ‘influencing’ people to purchase their product/service. These influencers have become a new type of celebrity, gaining millions of followers online and attracting billions of dollars in brand deals. Influencer marketing has proven to be monumentally successful with products such as Hi Smile, Bangn Body, Tropeaka Protein, and Bed Threads gaining a cult following of customers and selling out worldwide.

Social Justice Issues & Awareness/News

The past two years have been a rollercoaster of events, from protesting, riots, a pandemic, fires… it’s been a lot. More than 70% of people use social media as a source of daily news. Whether that be keeping up to date on COVID case numbers or sharing support for the Black Lives Matter movement, social media has allowed the public to be informed and educated as news breaks. Not only this but an outlet for those to share and speak out about issues they care most about.

Although social media may appear to be a double-edged sword, if used correctly it can be a wonderful tool for individuals and businesses. If you would like to tackle social media, contact Jayne Media.
